LOUIS ERARD

The history of LOUIS ERARD

Since its inception in 1931, Louis Erard has focused on developing watches that'meet wishes in a genuine and honest way.' This motto allows the firm to concentrate only on designing wristwatches that are suited to the individual wearer. Louis Erard, the firm's founder, was born in 1893 but did not create the company with another partner, Andre Perret, until he was 30 years old. For the first two years, the firm was situated in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, and was known as "Louis Erard & André Perret." Louis left the collaboration in 1931 and launched his own line of five watches under the name Louis Erard.

From this year onwards, Louis Erard's reputation as a producer of quality horology timepieces developed steadily. Louis Erard's timepieces were first made accessible globally in 1937. To expand the brand and meet international demand, the firm hired another 60 watchmakers, which was a major rise in the company's size at the time. Along with its success in developing its own wristwatches during WWII, the business also collaborated with other Swiss watchmakers, providing them with casings for their wristwatches. From 1948 through the 1980s, this cooperative endeavor persisted.

From 1992 forward, Louis Erard's house was Le Noirmont in the Swiss Jura highlands. Financial issues became a reality for the company as a result of the quartz crisis and the rise in the value of the Swiss Franc. The firm would not experience a new vision and be given a fresh lease of life until private Swiss investors purchased Louis Erard in 2003. Louis Erard began focused on making more cheap watches while ensuring that high materials and performance were never compromised, despite the fact that the brand had long been regarded a costly brand to collect. In 2009, Louis Erard collaborated with movement specialist Soprod on the company's first in-house module, which launched him on a new route to Haute Horlogerie.

Louis Erard celebrated its 80th anniversary just two years later. To commemorate the occasion, the brand unveiled the Excellence line, which featured a distinctive design that perfectly reflected Louis Erard as a company, fusing its history with cutting-edge timekeeping technology. In 2014, the company celebrated the production of its 200,000th watch in the Le Noirmont facility, which had moved 22 years previously. In 2016, the business celebrated its 85th anniversary by revisiting one of its most popular lines, the Heritage Collection, to highlight the brand's horological advancements. The clocks kept their original appeal, but with a movement that demonstrated the brand's commitment to study, understanding, and advancement. Qualities that reflect the brand's current position in the industry.

True to its beginnings, Louis Erard continues to create Swiss watches with high-end horological movements that depict the company's journey since its founding over a century ago. Sportive, 1931, and Romance are three of the company's most popular collections today, each with its own distinct design yet all able to communicate Louis Erard's love for great timekeeping and luxury aesthetics.
